Blog Talk Radio

Don’t forget to tune in today at 5pm CST for Tarot Talk on Blog Talk Radio! You can call in with questions or comments, and in the final half hour of the show (starting 5:30pm CST) call in for an on-air reading! The call in number is (347) 215-9790

I’m looking forward to answering your questions on the air!

ETA: I finished up about an hour and a half ago… That was incredibly fun! I hope that all the folks who tuned in to listen enjoyed the show and the readings, because I certainly did!

I was so hyped up after an hour of reading after reading that I just had to take the dogs on a walk around the neighborhood. There’s nothing quite so grounding as walking a couple of miles in the rain, with dogs by your side. I feel much more connected into the real world now.

For the coming week, look for essays on The Magician, the 3-Card Layout and I’ve got a post cued up about my relationship with my mom.

Here’s hoping everyone has a wonderful, brilliant and radiant week!

Looking for a great gift? Anxious about the cost of a reading?

Check out my auctions!

Ending in one day, this half hour ten card reading is a steal! This one ends tomorrow morning and is for the full hour long consultation; you’ll receive a ten card (or more) reading, in depth analysis of your issue or problem, and a written set of notes on the reading. An amazing deal! (The listing specifies only ten cards, but for this reading I’ll go as long as it takes. The Full Monty, as it were.)

Ten Card Celtic Cross Layout

If those sound like too much of a time commitment, don’t worry! I’ve also got a three card reading up for just five dollars! Body, Mind and Soul, or Past, Present, Future: your call.

Hesitate and these great deals will evaporate into the bowels of ebay, gone until I relist them. ;)

My journey to Zen

When I was a little girl, my grandmother would take my brother and I to church on Sundays. We’d go to Sunday School, where I remember that the teacher wore rose perfume. I always wanted to sit near her so I could smell the flowers. I worked hard in Sunday School, because every time we memorized a Bible verse, we’d earn a charm to go on our charm bracelets. There were ten charms in total, one for each commandment. I was about ready to pop when I finished mine.

When I left home for college, the simple easy faith of my childhood was put to the test. I attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and I joined the Fighting Texas Aggie Band. I’d been in band in high school, and I’d loved it. It had seemed logical to join the band in college, too. The Aggie Band is part of the Corps of Cadets, a quasi military organization within the University. I’d never been a part of anything like it, and it shook me to the core. Continue Reading »

The 4 of Fire in the Osho Zen Tarot“Have you ever seen night going? Very few people even become aware of things which are happening every day. Have you ever seen the evening coming? The midnight and its song? The sunrise and its beauty? We are behaving almost like blind people. In such a beautiful world we are living in small ponds of our own misery. It is familiar, so even if somebody wants to pull you out, you struggle. You don’t want to be pulled out of your misery, of your suffering. Otherwise there is so much joy all around, you have just to be aware of it and to become a participant, not a spectator.

Philosophy is speculation, Zen is participation. Participate in the night leaving, participate in the evening coming, participate in the stars and participate in the clouds; make participation your lifestyle and the whole existence becomes such a joy, such an ecstasy. You could not have dreamed of a better universe.”

One of the most widely used tarot spreads, the celtic cross spread is an excellent all-purpose layout. The general position of the cards in any celtic cross reading may be the same, but the interpretations of the positions changes depending on the reader.

The first card laid is usually the Significator, or Querent. Representing the person asking the question, or that person’s situation, the first card sits in the middle of the reading and is built upon for the rest of the reading. It can represent the person or persons involved, the situation as a whole or any of the factors in the situation being read for. This card can sometimes reflect subjective reality rather than objective reality; it shows how the questioner sees the situation, rather than how it actually is.

The second card is sometimes laid below the Significator, sometime across it. I’ve also seen it laid directly to the right of the Significator. This card is the Cross or Challenge card; it represents what is opposing the querent or what is hindering them. This card points out what you need to be aware of in the situation, something that requires attention. Other interpretations for this position are that this card points out what needs to be or is being released in the self; it can also be interpreted as some factor that diminishes or obscures the issue; alternatively, it can be seen as something enhancing or clarifying the issue. from the classic Rider-Waite deck

In my previous post, I mentioned that there are 21 Major Arcana in any Tarot deck. I had a friend ask me about that, pointing out that my math didn’t add up. If there are 78 cards in a deck, four suits of 14 cards each and 21 Major Arcana, then there was one card missing. She was right.

The math doesn’t add up because there is one card that doesn’t quite fit into either Major Arcana or Minor Arcana: The Fool.

Numbered as Trump (another word for Major Arcana) 0, the Fool sits outside both Major Arcana and Minor, separate and yet still a part of the whole. There is, actually, a bit of a split in the tarot world about what exactly the Fool ~is~. Is it Major Arcana, Minor or something else entirely? I take the ‘something else’ point of view when numbering the cards.

The Fool card may look quite simple, but there’s really a lot going on in this card. Visually, the Rider-Waite image packs a lot into a tiny space. The choice of color for each element has meaning, and there is detail in the image that is hard to pick out, unless you know it’s there. Continue Reading »
